General information:
The “Interreg” funding programme, now in its fourth edition, has for the current funding period 2007-2013 been upgraded to a so-called Goal 3 of European structural policy, with the title “European territorial co-operation”. The programme had previously “only” been a community initiative.
Interreg is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national governmental contributions.
Interreg IV Italy-Austria (2007-2013)
Interreg IV Italy-Austria forms part of the above funding programmes. This program promotes balanced, sustainable and lasting development together with harmonious integration in the border area between Italy and Austria in order to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of the regions and players involved.
The specific goals of the programme are:
- Improvement of economic relations and competitiveness
- Environmental protection and sustainable regional development
- Support of the evaluation and improvement of administrative capacity
These specific goals produce three programme priorities:
1. Economic relations, competitiveness and diversification
2. Space and sustainability
3. Technical assistance
As well as the autonomous province of Bozen-South Tyrol, the Programme and Co-Operative Area of Interreg IV Italy-Austria also includes the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, the Veneto region and the Austrian federal states of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia.
The autonomous province of Bozen-South Tyrol and Department 39 for European Affairs is the leading administrative authority for the programme.
This guarantees bilingual programme development in conjunction with the European Commission, the six partner regions, the Italian ministries and the Austrian Office of the Federal Chancellor.
The Department is also the certifying authority, which means that all European Union funds are payable from Bozen. The Joint Technical Secretariat, the first contact point for the Lead Partners for the entire programme area, is also located in Bozen.
The Interreg IV Italy-Austria programme is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national governmental contributions, totalling some 80 million euros, divided 75%-25%. Individual project agencies are also contributing their own resources.
